Snowy owls are active by day and can be found in marshy areas of Newfoundland during the winter. They are so striking in appearance with their large yellow eyes and white feathers. This painting depicts a late afternoon in early spring. the dried leaves of a pitcher plant (the official flower of Newfoundland and Labrador) and stems of various marsh grasses poke through patches of snow while scattered snowflakes fall.
