Like so many others I have fond childhood memories of my visits to Bowring Park in St. John's. On my very first visit my grandfather and I spent a pleasant summer afternoon strolling through the park stopping by the pond to see the swans. Watching the swans is still one of the highlights of my visits to the park. As I strolled along a path one spring morning I happened to see two ducklings huddled in the muddy riverbank. This scene inspired Mute Swan: Bowring Park. The pure white silk provided the sheen of the swan's feathers and permitted use of the watercolour technique for the water's surface.
