Berrylicious Smoothie Bowl with a yogurt garnish in a chevron design.
Berrylicious Smoothie Bowl
This smoothie is so berrylicious! It not only contains strawberries and raspberries, but is also presented with a delicious and nutritious cup of fresh berries.  Then for a little extra pizzazz the topping consists of a yogurt and chocolate chevron design. How can I sum this up in just one word? YUM!!

Hope your day goes as smoothly as mine!!!

BERRYLICIOUS SMOOTHIE BOWL
with a CHEVRON GARNISH

This smoothie bowl is as much fun to make as it is to eat! The chevron design looks complicated, but is so simple to make after just a little practice!

AUTHOR: Beverley Noseworthy
MEAL: Breakfast, dessert, snack
DIETARY INFO: Gluten free, low FODMAP, peanut free, refined sugar free, vegan, vegetarian
SERVES: 1

INGREDIENTS

FOR THE SMOOTHIE
  • 1/2 cup frozen banana slices
  • 3/4 cup almond coconut blend (or your favourite non-dairy milk)
  • 1 cup frozen strawberry slices
  • 1/8 cup frozen raspberries

FOR THE CHEVRON GARNISH
  • 3 tablespoons white yogurt (e.g. coconut or soy, plain or vanilla)
  • 3 tablespoons chocolate sauce made from
    • 1 tablespoon cocoa/cacao powder
    • 1 tablespoon maple syrup
    • 1 tablespoon of vanilla almond milk (or other milk)

SUGGESTED TOPPINGS
  • 1/2 cup fresh strawberries, whole and/or sliced
  • 1/4 cup fresh blueberries
  • one fresh cherry (omit if you need to reduce FODMAPs)*
  • fresh mint leaves*
  • cacao nibs or chocolate sprinkles*

* Optional

METHOD

1. Prepare chevron yogurt garnish. If yogurt is too thick, thin with a few drops of non-dairy milk. Pour yogurt into either a small squeeze bottle or a piping bag/icing gun fitted with a small round tip.

2. Prepare chevron chocolate garnish. In a custard cup or small bowl add cocoa and maple syrup. Stir to combine. Gradually add milk and stir well to combine. Heat sauce in the microwave oven for 10 seconds or until mixture thickens a little and turns a deeper brown. Stir and let cool to room temperature before poring into a small squeeze bottle, piping bag or icing gun fitted with a small round tip.

3. Fill a small glass fruit nappy or ramekin with fresh berries and place off-centre in a low, wide soup bowl.

4. Add smoothie ingredients to a blender. Blend (or pulse and then blend) until smooth. Pour smoothie into the wide bowl.

3. Add the chevron pattern and other garnishes, as desired. To make the chevron pattern as pictured in the photo above:
  • First pipe four semi-circular lines of the chevron garnish (alternating between white yogurt and chocolate sauce).
  • Then, starting near the fruit nappy, drag a toothpick (or a skewer) down across the yogurt and chocolate lines to the outside edge of the smoothie bowl.
  • Lift the toothpick out of the smoothie and move it over to drag it in an upward direction across the yogurt and chocolate lines.
  • Alternate in this manner, dragging the toothpick up and then down, until the pattern is complete.

4. Serve immediately and enjoy!

SMOOTHIE-MAKING TIPS
  • You may need to adjust the amount of milk in this recipe for your blender. For a thicker smoothie use less milk next time. If the mixture is too thick for blending, add a little extra milk, a tablespoon at a time, to help the process along.
  • If you are following a restricted diet (e.g. dairy free or nut free), always check the ingredient list on the label to ensure that each food item used meets your dietary needs.
